Zusammenfassung des Prospect Camps 2009 vom Fanblogger (CPF)

ZitatForwards

69. JD Watt
Excelled again on Friday. Has been getting better and better using his strength. As I said yesterday, if he plays with a chip on his shoulder, he is awesome.

42. Bret Sutter
Bret was very good all week. I have never seen him as strong as he has been all week. I love his strength. His attitude is awesome. I think he will be in the league. He is a prototype Sutter after all.

60. Mickael Backlund
Seen him in the face-off drill. There is nothing this kid can't do. He has all the tools to make it in the NHL. He really has nothing else to prove and start his pro career. Mickael's only weakness may be his strength, and even that is a huge improvement. You can tell that in Mickael mind there is the Flames and no other option.

68. Spencer Benett
Has looked pretty good. Needs strength, but he does have the tools to make it. I suspect that he made the right decision by going the WHL route. The Flames would rather have him in WHL than American College hockey. That should tell you right there that they think highly of him. I like his speed and shot.

65. Henrik Bjorklund
He is very fast, and has good puck control. Henrik has a quick puck release, and is usually accurate. What I found surprising about the prospect is his strength.

57 Lance Bouma
He has skill to burn. Outstanding offensive skills. Lance hit his stride. When he starts skating, he is explosive. Simply put, he is fast. I really like his stick and what he can do with it.

74 Hugo Carpentier
His strength is his best quality. I was really hoping for a bit more out of him. He is a solid defensive specialist, but needs to improve in the offensive zone, although that might not be his game.

76 Jordon Fulton
Needs some growing out. He has to get stronger, but Jordon is still young. Jordon gave up too easily. He needs to work more. He is an excellent skater. He needs more time to develop. He will be a project.

73 Ryley Grantham
Ryley is pretty solid on his feet. He will be a third liner who is very dependable. Grantham has been signed and it will be interesting to see where he plays next season. Only time will tell, but bulky Ryley will be given a chance by the Flames.

64 Ryan Howse
Ryan is the fastest skater in the camp. He is terrific prospect. I was simply amazed. Outside Backlund, Watt, and Sutter, he has been the best forward. What an impression made for his first camp.

77 Aaron Marvin
Aaron is a huge power forward, with tons of upside. I really liked how he fared in the drills. His strength is awesome. I really think Aaron will be a good one.

48 Greg Nemisz
Greg is a major prospect. Greg has great shot, he is a good passer, and he is very smart out there. Greg seems to think, does not throw the puck blindly, and uses his head. He will get stronger. Love his kid.

69 Mitch Wahl
Mitch has the tools to succeed, but needs to work on a few things. The first is his shot. He has to hit the net more often. He has great wheels, tons of finesse, but he has to finish. Defensively, he has to be more aware of what is around him.

75 John Armstrong
Armtstrong has great speed. It is really too bad that he is still recovering from his injuries. I was really looking forward to seeing him.

Defense

54 Keith Aulie
Keith has great outstanding defensive zone coverage. He is a very solid stay home defensemen. He needs to grow out more, and improving his skating skills. I feel bad for him just simply because he is on the wrong team. The Flames have the best prospects when it comes to defense, bar none. He has to get stronger in his legs. Defensively though, he is awesome.

67 Gord Baldwin
Gord has a great reach with his stick that he uses to his advantage. He reads the play well and often poke checks with his reach. He uses his strength and size to his advantage. One of the many reasons why I love our defense for years to come.

66 T.J. Brodie
T.J. has a great shot and is fairly strong. I like his defensive awareness. I like his offensive skills, and he is very good defensively.

49 Brad Cole
I really like Brad. He has a great shot and plays with an edge. He is very good defensively and has speed to help out with other player's defensive mishaps. On most teams,

51 Tim Erickson
Has great puck skills. Good skating skills, but needs to get stronger. Tim has to develop his skill at skating backwards. I love this kid, but I do believe it will take a few years before he is ready.

61 John Negrin
Only had one bad day, otherwise he was very good. John is very smart great skater, and a very good defender. John did a very good job in the two-on-two drills. I like his ability to adapt to situations.

56 Matt Pelech
Best dman prospect on the Flames. Matt is ready. On any other team, he would probably be a 4 or a 5. I consider Matt the best candidate for the number 7 slot.

43 Keith Seabrook
Great with the stick. I can really tell this kid is going to be an offensive powerhouse. I love his ability to get rid of the puck. I cannot believe how mature this kid looks on the ice. I believe that Seabrook was a steal by Sutter from the Capitals.

Goalies

35 Leland Irving
Leland's strength is his glove hand and controlling rebounds. He is quick and plays his angles very well. The key to Leland's success is not getting caught out of position. He has really improved with his stick play, and is a terrific prospect.

36 Matt Keetley
Matt is the most agile goalie of the threesome. He made the best save in the camp, especially, with his body diving back on rebounds. He is fast, has great reflexes. The only worry is controlling rebounds, again another great prospect.

37 Joni Ortio
Joni has a great glove hand. He has a lot of promise, but needs to adjust to the North American rink. He was caught out of position once in a while, but again, I think that is adjusting to the North American rink. He has one more year on his contract. Then I think Sutter will bring him to the WHL. I think Regina owns his rights, not sure though.

Backlund (kleine Leisten-Blessur) und Carpentier (Kumpel heiratete) waren am letzten Tag nicht am Start.

Infos vom User Union (aus dem CPF) Tag 6

ZitatBacklund - I didn't see him at all today. Hopefully his injury? isn't significant.

Howse - Paired with Wahl in the majority of the passing drills and the two of them did very well. I was pleasantly surprised with his soft hands considering he is a pure goal scorer based on statistics.

Wahl - As with Howse, very soft hands on the passing drills, great job. Shot accuracy was still a bit questionable but very quick.

Brodie - Paired with Bennett in the passing drills and they struggled a lot, especially on the backhand. Definitely has to improve his short distance, quick passing. In the later drills he did well with long passes when given time and space and he has great offensive instincts in the opposition end and sniped a couple top cheese.

Bennett - As mentioned, really struggled in the short distance passing when not given time or space. Made a lot of innacurate passes and bobbled a lot of good passes. His hands need to get better. Didn't notice him in the offensive drills but wasn't really looking for him.

Armstrong - Did extremely well in the short range passing drills. Almost every pass whether forehand, backhand, or drop passes (yes drop passes, don't meltdown CP!) was accurate. Hopefully he has a great year.

Nemisz - Did average in the short range passing but seemed to struggle in the long range passing when given time and space which I found odd. He seemed to have stone hands today so hopefully it was just an off day. He drove the net often instead of taking a long range shot which was good to see.

Erixon - Was at the other end of the ice for the short passing so again didn't get a good look at him. In the long range passing he was composed and patient and more often than not made a good pass, good skating too he looked very smooth. His shot could improve though, it's not very hard. Was always hanging around joking with Bjorklund and in good spirits.

Bjorklund - Slick stick handling today although sometimes he bobbled the puck trying to be fancy. Decent shot too.

Sutter - Colour me impressed. Sutter has been fantastic both days I have been there. Great passing, probably the best shooter out there today, did drills well, gave it 100% every drill. He was also talking to a lot of the players, both in a serious manner and joking around. Sutter and Ortio seemed to get on well and were constantly joking around during the water breaks. Great to see Sutter trying to make everyone feel comfortable.

Severyn - I thought he struggled today. Looked slow compared to some players and mishandled the puck quite a bit. His shot seemed below expectations also. I hope he has a strong year and improves.

Negrin - In the long range passing he was constantly missing his targets and McGill actually stopped all the players at one point after Negrin missed three straight skaters. Hopefully it was just a bad day but based on the viewing his passing needs to improve. Has a decent shot and good skating speed.

Seabrook - Seemed to be below average again today. Mishandled the puck at times and looked slower than most of the other players. You could tell he was angry with his performance today so it's good to see that emotion and hopefully it was an off day.

Pelech - Didn't really get to showcase his defensive capability today but his speed was good and passing decent for a big defenceman.

Aulie - Passing was average but he still looked a little slow. As already said, no chance to evaluate defensive play.

Keetley was in front of me all of today so I didn't get a good look at Irving. Today was mainly passing and most of the players were just taking long range wrist shots so I don't think it was a good day to evaluate goaltending.

Brent, Cookson, another Sutter, and two Sutter kids were watching from the lower bowl.

ZitatBacklund - Appeared to get injured in the first few minutes and didn't return. Looked minor though. I'm not 100% sure on this.

Pelech - I thought he had a great day, looked really confident and comfortable out there, best of all the defenceman today I thought.

Wahl - Has great strength on his wrist shot/snap shot, decent release too, horrible accuracy though. Skated well.

Watt - Showed good leadership, was really focused on doing drills properly and directing others to do the same.

Sutter - Whenever I noticed him it was because he was doing something well. Excellent work ethic and an all around solid day.

Aulie - Massive man with good stick work because of his reach but his lack of speed was really exposed today. Needs to get quicker.

Seabrook - Had a rough start to the day and was beat a lot 1-on-1 both with speed to the outside and dekes. Improved at the end.

Armstrong - Fumbled the puck a lot today, really struggled. You can tell he is still hurting.

Bouma - Had a good day and scored a couple goals. Better than expected.

Fulton - Looked slow out there and outmatched. Looked disinterested at times.

Patterson - Had a great day I thought. I noticed him quite a bit, more often than not for good reasons. Better than I expected.

Severyn - Looked outclassed. Nothing notable.

Nemisz - Drove the net very well but always seemed to be looking for the pretty pass even when a shooting opportunity was present.

Positives

ZitatGOALIES

35 Leland Irving

-Leland is awesome and was today great stick work,

- I really have confidence in this kid.

- Leland made quite few good saves, has really improved with his stick this year.

36 Matt Keetley

- Matt had a much better day this afternoon.

- He was much better at controlling his rebounds made a few unbelievable saves on the shoot out drill again.

- Matt still has a tendency to let out the odd rebound, but he is vastly improving each year.

DEFENSE

56 Matt Pelech

-Matt is ready now, I mean truly if he was another team he would be on the big club no questions asked.

- He was fantastic at blocking two on one's he covered the angle he is fundamentally sound in his own end.

66 T.J. Brodie

- Mr. Brodie had a better today I liked the way he used his weight ,
- His skating was improved.

- I really like the development of T. J. he might needs some help with his skating but he is getting closer.

FORWARDS

60 Mikael Backlund

- This guys simply amazes me more each day, he was again outstanding with the puck.

-The most amazing skill is his attitude, he listens with his coaches, and you can tell he wants this.

- His ability to think 4 moves ahead blows my mind on how he can make plays.

- You can see how his mind works and I like it.

69. J.D. Watt

- Today J.D. had his best day he was terrific, had his shot going he was amazingly accurate.

- He played with a chip on his shoulder, he played like the way he has to.

- When this kid plays with a chip on shoulder he is valuable asset to the Flame for many years to come.

48 Greg Nemisz

-Greg has all the skills of becoming a star, I can see it in him for sure.

- I love his puck control, being able to skate with the puck is outstanding.

- He has a quick release, and hides where he is shooting.

- What I mean by that is he does not telegraphs where he is shooting.

CONCLUSION

-There you have it there were quite a few more forwards I could of mentioned there were a few concerns I have with some players.

- I really don't like being negative but if you push it I will let you know of them.
