Giguere

7th round,192th Overall        Brett Perlini

Position: Center
Team: Michigan State (CCHA)
HT/WT: 6-2/175
Stats: 20 games - 7 goals - 5 assists -> voted most improved player of his team
Rankings: -

Scouting Report:

Giguere

6th round,177th Overall       Kevin Lind

Position: Defense
Team: Chicago (USHL)
HT/WT: 6-2/205
Stats: 55 games - 6 goals - 10 assists
Rankings: CS 139 NAS

Scouting Report:

Has very good size and the raw skills to play a solid two-way game from the backend. Doesn't mind playing physical and has some good offensive skills as well. Joins the rush often and has a good shot. Skates very well and uses his speed to gamble offensively and then be able to quickly retreat defensively. Needs to work on his handling of the puck as he tends to throw it away when he senses any type of pressure. Still has lots to learn about all aspects of the game. Committed to the University of Notre Dame. (Future Considerations)

The best draft eligible defenseman in the USHL not playing for the NTDP is Chicago's Kevin Lind. The big defenseman is a good skater for his size and is surprisingly agile on the ice. He anticipates the play well and uses that as an asset to move the puck well in transition. He rarely makes a bad pass and always has his head on a swivel looking for outlet options. His offensive output has been a little disappointing, but there is the potential for more. Lind could afford to be more physical with his play and needs to avoid over-committing on opposing forwards. /The Scouting Report)

Struggled at times to meet the expectation
Decent gap control
Hard slap shot
Notre Dame, University of 2010-11 (Verbal)
Needs work on his foot speed (ISS)

Lind isn't an offensive defenseman as Moore was, but his ability to control forwards one-on-one at the USHL level should not be dismissed.  A quality skater, he's extremely mobile defensively and at 6'3", he has a nice frame to build upon

Giguere

6th round,151th Overalll               Andreas Dahlström

Position: Center
Team: AIK Stockholm (Sweden II)
HT/WT: 5-11/176
Stats: 6 games - 1 goal - 2 assists with AIK   5 games - 4 goals - 6 assists with AIK Jr.
Rankings: CS 47 EUS

Scouting Report:

A very shifty player. Dahlström has impressive hands and technical skills and is very creative. Can do the unexpected with the puck at all times. Hockey sense is good and passing game is impressive. Skating could maybe use some improvement as well as his finishing ability. Injuries have also slowed down his development, but he has the potential to become a high scoring player. (EP)

Giguere

5th round,132th Overall           Tim Heed

Position: Defense
Team: Södertalje
HT/WT: 5-11/165
Stats: 32 games - 8 goals - 29 assists with Södertalje Jr.  27 games - 1 goal - 9 assists with Södertalje
Rankings: CS 35 EUS

Scouting Report:

An offensive-minded defenseman who previously played forward, which is sometimes noticeable. Is a good shot and a highly-skilled playmaker from the blueline. Useful on the man advantage. Lots of poise and with pretty good mobility. (EP)

Heed is an offensive defenseman. He is poised and a very good passer. However, he's undersized. While he isn't tall, he isn't THAT short, 6'0 is a respectable lenght. If he adds some muscle, then he might have a future in the NHL.  He was eligible for the draft last year, so I was surprised the Ducks of all teams picked him. But as someone mentioned, he had a breakout year in the Swedish Elite League. 10 points in 27 games in the SEL is very very good for a 19 year old defenseman, especially considering that Sodertalje was the worst team in the league not named Rogle. Two assists in three games at the World Juniors is also decent.

He spent half of the season in the SEL after starting the year dominating the J20 league with 37 points in 32 games. He had 10 points in 27 games in the SEL, which was a much better point per game average then Erixon or Rundblard (13 in 45 and 13 in 47).The strength of Heed's game in his ability to think the game, and make the right plays all the time. He has decent skill with the puck, excellent vision, skating and passing skills. Heed need's to work on being stronger on the puck in the corners and finishing his checks more. He should get better at playing physical when he fills out a bit. NHL comparison- Kaberle

Giguere

5th round,122th Overall        Christopher Wagner

Position: RW
Team: South Shore (EJHL)
HT/WT: 6-0/200
Stats: 44 games - 34 goals - 49 assists -> leading scorer,named best offensive player and MVP
Ranking: CS 136 NAS

Scouting Report:

After being passed over in last year's Draft, Wagner set an EJHL record for single season scoring with the South Shore Kings.  A teammate of first-round pick Charlie Coyle, who was second on the team in scoring, Wagner lacks Coyle's size, his international play and his general wunderkind pedigree.  But the Walpole, MA native has shown a strong nose for the net.He will play for Colgate next year.

Plus: The most productive player in EJHL history. Circles the net like a hungry shark and then pounces on pucks and fires them into the back of the net. Has some real jump in his stride and can separate from defenders when he gets a step. A fine stick-handler who takes the puck into traffic and usually comes out with it.
Minus: Size is barely average and he needs work on his functional strength. Passed over last year, so will have to win over the same scouts who didn't see him as an option in '09. (New England Hockey Journal)

He's got a chance (to be drafted) this year given what he's accomplished. He's much stronger than he was last year, although he's still on the smallish side. He looks like a good college player (Colgate) at least, and in time could develop into a solid pro." (NHL-Scout)

Giguere

2nd Round, 42th Overall       Devante Smith Pelley

Position: RW
Team: Missauga (OHL)
HT/WT: 6-0/211
Stats: 60 games - 29 goals - 33 assists
Rankings: CS 76 NAS/TSN 52/THN 65/ISS 69
Comperable NHL-Player: Dustin Brown

Scouting Reports:

Smith-Pelly made some big strides early, almost putting himself into first round contention, but slowed down a bit as the season progressed. He's got some grit in his game, and is willing to pay the price occasionally, but his consistency is a bit of a concern. His fitness level has been questioned by some, and will be another concern he will need to address in the near future. (The Scouting Report)

1st Round, 29th Overall        Emerson Etem

Position: RW
Team: Portland Winterhawks (WHL)
HT/WT: 6-0/190
Stats: 72 games - 37 games - 28 assists
Rankings: CS 8 NAS/ISS 18/TSN 17/THN 17
Comperable NHL player:

Scouting Reports: Mike Cammalleri

"A 37-goal scorer with a good Medicine Hat team. He handles the puck so well at full speed. His crouch style belies his 6-foot stature. He looks smaller out there on the ice, but he's not small in productiveness. How about this -- he moved from Long Beach to Minnesota's Shattuck-St. Mary's to Medicine Hat, Alberta, all in the space of three developmental junior years." (Central Scouting)

"Emerson is a great skater who opens up the ice real well. He is a real professional already. Everyday he prepares like a pro. His biggest strength is he wants to improve as a player. When you tell him something he is prepared to do it." (Willie Desjardins, Coach Medicine Hat)

The California kid from Long Beach comes from a family of elite athletes and is arguably the fastest skater in the entire draft. With a hard, heavy shot that allows him to score off the rush from far out, it's difficult to envision the Medicine Hat Tiger winger as anything but a mid-first round pick. (Bob McKenzie)

Etem displays an impressive skillset, but what might be most impressive is his ability to fade away from the play and seem almost invisible – only to appear and strike when you least expect him to. He has an NHL caliber wrist shot that almost always hits it's mark, as characterized by his high goal total. Etem is also a great skater, with quick acceleration and blazing high end speed, and works tirelessly on both sides of the puck. These traits earned him an invite to the CHL Top Prospect's game, where he put his skills on display, scoring a slick shorthanded goal. Etem showcased his two-way capabilities all season long in the WHL, as only four players scored more than Etem's 5 shorthanded markers this season. There are some concerns with Etem's skating stride, perhaps mainly due to the fact that Etem skates hunched over, with his head down; which might open him up to devestating open ice hits. While it may not be the most orthodox syle, he is one of the quicker skaters in the entire draft. Etem isn't much of a physical factor on the ice, as evidenced by his 26 penalty minutes (and 0 in the playoffs), but he is able to use his speed effectively on the forecheck, and in the defensive end to gain possession of the puck. A native of Long Beach, California, Emerson Etem has followed a recent trend of top NHL prospects from the so-called "Sun Belt". With solid credentials at every level, including time spent at the famous Shattock-St. Mary's prep school in Minnesota, it's hard to question Etem's talent and commitment to being a professional hockey player. He is a very focused and determined player, and will make every effort to get to the next level in his career. (The Scouting Report)

Giguere

1st Round, 12th Overall         Cam Fowler

Position: Defense
Team: Windsor Spitfires (OHL)
HT/WT: 6-1/190
Stats: 55 games - 8 goals - 47 assists -> won OHL championship, Memorial Cup and goald at the U-20-WC
Rankings: CS 5 NAS/TSN 5/ISS 5/THN 3/McK 6
Comperable NHL Player: Tomas Kaberle, jay Bouwmeester

Scoutin Reports:

"He's your prototypical offensive-defenseman. He's your (quarterback) on your (power-play), he's your great skating offensive-defenseman and he controls the puck with his skills. If you're looking for a comparison, think of Kaberle with the Maple Leafs. But in sticking with his country, maybe even a future Leetch or Housley." (Central Scouting)

"Cam's vision, skating and passing are his greatest assets. He gets himself out of trouble with his feet and his mobility makes it very difficult for opposing players to get by him. Cam has good size and once he fills out, he will anchor an NHL club's back end for many years." (Bob Boughner, Coach Windsor)

Cam Fowler has some star qualities in terms of offensive ability and how he's able to use his world class skating ability to take pucks up the ice and get his team out of trouble. He sees the ice well with the puck, makes excellent first passes and virtually all his notoriety comes from when he or his team has the puck. He plays well on the point on the power play and has a knack for getting pucks through from the point and has saved his best performances for the biggest stages – the 2010 World Junior Championship, when he was outstanding in Team USA's gold-medal win, and this year's Memorial Cup. Fowler has the greatest offensive upside of any of the Big Three on defence, but scouts note that he's fairly one dimensional insofar as he is not an accomplished defender, doesn't battle hard in his own end and within the OHL has a reputation for being on the soft side when his team doesn't have the puck. (Bob McKenzie)

Fowler is an elite skater that shows excellent lateral mobility. His stride is very smooth and he excels both in straight-line speed as well as in transition and pivoting. Defensively, his ability to change directions quickly factored in with his passing skills make him a threat to push the play back up ice on a counter attack before his opponents can get back in position. Conversely, if a quick pass is not an option, Fowler is just as content to carry the puck up the ice and lead the rush. Fowler has good offensive awareness and is constantly in motion on the blue line in order to move defenders and create new looks. He seems to get shots on goal through traffic but they often don't have much behind them. This area of his game needs great improvement. Overall, his instincts serve him well as he develops as a powerplay quarterback. Defensively, Fowler has had his ups and downs this season. While looking susceptible at times in junior this year, Fowler stepped up his own zone play for the World Juniors. He has all the physical attributes to make him successful in his own end, but he needs to work on consistently making good reads and adding a physical element to his game. (The Scouting Report)
