Giguere

6th Round, 166th Overall     Scott Valentine

Position: Defnse
Team: Oshawa (OHL)
Stats: 43 games-1 goal-8 assists

He's got good size and likes to bump down low and is not at all shy about handling the puck. He loves to shoot, but we wish he'd make better decisions on the point, where he tends to get lots of shots blocked. Valentine has some warts, but we think he's just beginning to find his confidence at this level and has some tools that could be developed. Now we're not saying either Dumont or Valentine is a candidate for the top two or three rounds, but we think both are nice little mid-round sleeper candidates who could surprise. Giguere

5th round, 136th Overall      Radoslav Illo

Position: Center
Team: Tri-City Storm (USHL)
Statistiken: 47 games-21 goals, 12 assists

Giguere

4th Round, 107th Overall     Sami Vatanen

Position: Defense
Team: Jyvaskyla Jyps junior team
HT/WT: 5-9/163
Stats: 20 games-3 goals-7 assists
Rankings: ISS 83/RLR 99/McK 41/
Comperable NHL player: Niklas Kronwall,Kimmo Timmonen

Stärken:
Vatanen is highly talented, but his size at just 5'9 could keep him from NHL success.  He is a very good skater, quarterbacks the power play, and is solid defensively.  Good leader as well.Vatanen is a smooth-skating, quick defensemen whose best assets are his play-making ability and his ability to read the play on the fly. Undersized and thus vulnerable in his own end, he is able to compensate by using his skating ability and good recognition of passing/shooting lanes. Willing to compete for lose pucks though his size is sometimes a disadvantage. Doesn't have a powerful shot but is accurate and has a quick release. He is a very good passer. Yet to mature physically, so his size and strength should improve. A team leader, he was the captain of the Under-18 Finnish national team in 2008-2009. HF
Vatanen's recent meteoric rise in the draft rankings is because of his recent outstanding performance at the WJC-U18s for Finland, where he was one of the best blueliners in the tournament. To top that off, almost seemingly trying to prove size is not an issue, Sami put forth an amazing effort at the scouting combine (see below). If he were 6' and heavier, this guy would surely be a 1st rounder. Even with the size issue stacked against him, the NHL franchise that gives this prospect a chance will have a guy with relentless determination to beat the odds. Vatanen is a great skater, has a good shot, makes pinpoint accurate outlet passes and has tremendous hockey sense.  Hockey spy

3rd Round, 76th Overall      Igor Bobkov

Position: Goalie
Team: Magnitogorsk 2
HT/WT: 6-4/192
Rankings: TSN 45/ISS 7 G/RLR 48/CS 61 EG
Comperable NHL player: Roman Chechmanek

Stärken:
Named the top goaltender in the World U-18 tournament, Bobkov may be the best performing Russian goaltender in recent memory. Bobkov is tremendously and deceptively big, he moves well and plays his angles very well." ISS
A very tall goalie who plays a stand-up style.  His style relies mostly on his size and on his athletism: at 6'4" he covers a large part of the net, and with his very quick legs he can either stretch them for a pad save or effectively slide around from post to post. He needs to work on his glove hand, technique and challenging, but he has the physical edge to play in North America. HF

#4
2nd Round,37th Overall          Matthew Clark

Position: Defense
Team:Brampton (OHL)
HT/WT: 6-3/205
Stats: 63 games-3 goals-20 assists
Rankings: TSN 78/ISS 91/RlR 74/McK 87/CS 31 NAS
Comperable NHL player: Rob Blake

Stärken:
Clark is a steady d-man who generally plays a simple, safe game. Good sized defensive d-man who plays with a physical presence. Although his offensive output will never be very high, he certainly has the tools to become a steady defender that understands his limitations and plays to his strengths. Moves the puck up ice quickly and effectively with good first pass. Shows good anticipation of the play and finishes a lot of checks - plays physical in his own end without running around. ISS
He is a stay-at-home defender who is very reliable in his own zone, rarely makes mistakes and makes good and solid outlet passes. He has a quiet confidence about him and has a great work ethic, and possesses some upside offensively. Hockey spy
Clark has prototypical size for a blueliner and is a well-regarded defensive defenseman.  Clark's never going to be a huge point producer at the next level, nor will he supply a lot of value on the power play, but he is consistently matched up against the opposing team's top line and more often than not has proven that he can come out on top of those battles. He's a smart player who prefers the safe, secure play to the exclusion of risky moves. HF

Anaheim Ducks90

#2
1st Round, 26th Overall         Kyle Palmieri

Position: Center,Rightwing
Team: USA-U 18
HT/WT: 5-10/191
Stats: 33 games-15 goals-15 assists
Rankings: TSN 25/THN 26/ISS 23/RLR 26/McK 42/CS 20 NAS
Comperable NHL Player: Chris Drury

Stärken:
I think Kyle's got a little bit of Chris Drury in him. I look at his passion, his natural skills and his tenaciousness, and that's what I saw in Chris. He's a lot of fun to watch because he has that vision along with a wicked shot. He very seldom passes up the opportunity to make the right play -- he's in position to shoot the puck and has that insight into whether to freeze and dish or just let it go." Scouting-Report
He's not overly tall, but he's athletic with lots of speed. There have been questions about his character, but that shouldn't be an issue."  TSN
Palmieri is a first-class agitator. Hard-working with good speed, the question is whether his puck skills are good enough to be more than a grinder and whether he's a team player. It's hard to justify a first-round pick on someone who doesn't have high upside. HF

#1
1st Round,15th overall           Peter Holland

Position: Center
Team: Guelph Storm (OHL)
HT/WT: 6-2/185
Stats: 68 games-28 goals,39-assists
Rankings: Tsn 24/THN 19/ISS 15/RLR 24/McK 25/CS 19 NAS
Comperable NHL player: Patrick Marleau

Stärken:
When he is competing, he is very noticeable and effective. He is used both on the power-play and penalty-kill units, and at times he has been used at the point on the power-play. He skates very well, smooth, and he generates good speed. He has a very good shot." Scouting-Report
Holland is a big guy whose point totals weren't too far off from Matt Duchene. He has all the tools, but scouts are wondering if his tenacity can match the skills. TSN
A power forward prospect, Holland's stock has slipped a bit from the combine, particularly the interview portion. On the ice, his hockey sense is not as good as those above him. However, his size, offensive talents, and willingness to play in front of the net make him an option for teams who miss out on Zack Kassian.  Holland is not as big as Kassian but still has time to grow and room on his frame to add weight. He has shown solid hands around the net and is noted for his ability to disrupt defensive sides with his forecheck. HF
